Fall Luncheon was held on October 27th, 2011 at the Schreiner University Cailloux Student Center Ballroom from 12:00 noon to 1:00pm. The Community Foundation is thankful for the financial support of Hill Country State Bank for this event! A partner in the past, HCSB has once again shown their community-mindedness by underwriting Fall Luncheon. Our distinguished honoree was Baptist Child & Family Services Health and Human Services.
About 200 guests were present for this annual event hosted by the Community Foundation. The Cailloux Activity Center on the Schreiner University campus was the ideal venue for the gathering. The food services personnel and wait staff were exceptional in their efforts to provide a wonderful meal.
Fall Luncheon 2011 began with a welcome by Jayne Zirkel, Event Coordinator for the Community Foundation, followed by the invocation from Pastor Ray Altman, pastor at First United Methodist Church-Kerrville. The buffet was opened at this time. Upon seeing that all were seated and enjoying their meal, Jayne Zirkel thanked HCSB and their representatives for the financial support they offer to the Community Foundation and the local community at large. Special thanks was offered to J. David Williams, Ronnie Miller and Penny VanShoubrouek, all from HCSB, for their efforts. Jayne then shared some interesting Foundation Facts with the group:
The Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country:
• Has awarded $11.8 million in grants, scholarships and distributions
• Holds more than $8.8 million in assets
• Manages more than 98 component funds
• Offers training for area nonprofit professionals and boards of directors
• Uses professionals to invest and manage our assets
• Provides philanthropic flexibility without the hassles
• Gives donors the option to maintain a charitable portfolio with an investment advisor of their choice (for endowment funds valued at $250,000 or more)
• Knows the needs of our area, and is working hard to improve our community’s well-being
• Is comprised of 15 volunteer board members
• Has served the Bandera, Gillespie, Kendall & Kerr Counties for nearly 30 years!!
After watching a short DVD presentation about the Community Foundation, Board of Directors President, Roy Thompson, offered a message explaining more about what the Community Foundation offers its donors. Next, Terri Hipps and Jeremy Taylor, both of Baptist Child & Family Services, expounded on the needs facing foster children and teens in our area, and the dire need for a "transition center" in Kerrville. BCFS is on the verge of launching a capital campaign to raise funds for this end. If you would like to help with the campaign, please call the BCFS offices at (830)896-0993.
To conclude the luncheon, Ronnie Miller of HCSB, A State Banking Association, offered kind words about the work in progress by the Community Foundation and BCFS to better the Texas Hill Country and the counties they serve. Jayne Zirkel took the podium for the final time to again offer appreciation to all in attendance and to HCSB for their financial support.
