Grant Making History

As of December 2009 the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country has awarded more than $9.3 million in grants and distributions to charitable organizations operating in the Texas Hill Country since the first small grant of $23.11 was awarded to the Barnett Chapel Building Fund in 1982. The asset size of the Community Foundation has grown to more than $9,700,000 since its initial $5,000 contribution by Mrs. Alma Dietert in 1982.

The Application Process

The Community Foundation supports the programs of charitable organizations that benefit the entire Texas Hill Country. Grant requests have a greater likelihood of being funded: when the project has a significant and long lasting impact on the community or when the project tests a new approach to solve a community problem. The organization requesting a grant should also demonstrate effectiveness in accomplishing its mission and have implemented a system for short and long-term planning. Grants are generally not awarded to individuals, to pay off an organization's indebtedness or for political or religious activities.

The Community Foundation's grant guidelines, grant application, and evaluation of a grant award are all-important parts of the application process. Grant applications are accepted year round.
