Grant Making History

As of December 2015, The Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country has awarded over $16.8 million in grants and distributions to charitable organizations operating in the Texas Hill Country. The first small grant of $23.11 was awarded to the Barnett Chapel Building Fund in 1982. The asset size of The Community Foundation has grown to over $17,200,000 since its initial $5,000 contribution by Mrs. Alma Dietert in 1982.

The Application Process

The Community Foundation supports the programs of charitable organizations that benefit the Texas Hill Country. Grant requests have a greater likelihood of being funded when the project has a significant and long-lasting impact on the community, or when the project tests a new approach to solve a community problem. The organization requesting a grant should also demonstrate effectiveness in accomplishing its mission and have implemented a system for short and long-term planning. Grants are generally not awarded to individuals, to pay off an organization's indebtedness or for political activities.

The Community Foundation's grant guidelines, grant application, and evaluation of a grant award are all important parts of the application process. Grant applications are accepted year-round, but deadline dates and requirements are strictly followed. Late or incomplete applications are not considered.
