James Eastland Memorial Scholarship

The James Eastland Scholarship was established to revere James’s loving and caring spirit and his strong character by providing scholarships for graduating Hill Country seniors who previously attended Hunt Independent School District. James believed that character was based on attitude and he led by example. He loved seeing others reach their potential through hard work and a positive attitude.

James attended Tivy High School and graduated from the Engineering School at the University of Texas. He eventually returned home to Camp Mystic to help with the family business when his father became ill. James had a dream of expanding the camp, and worked hard to turn that dream into a reality. Five years after James passed away, construction began and his dream and vision came to fruition in the summer of 2020.

James is remembered for his work in the Mentoring program at Hunt Elementary School. He believed in building students’ confidence by helping them find their own gifts. James felt it was his God-given duty to give others the same love and support he had received.

James’s family and loved ones want his joy and enthusiasm for life to continue to inspire young leaders in making their dream of a college education a reality.
